Answers to common questions

The extension isn't finding a transcript

Not every YouTube video has a transcript available — auto-captions can take time to generate, and some creators disable captions entirely. If a video has the "CC" option in its own player controls, Timestampfinder should be able to read it. If it doesn't, try refreshing the page.

My search isn't matching anything I know is said in the video

Search matches against the transcript text, which is usually auto-generated by YouTube and can contain small transcription errors. Try a shorter or slightly different phrase — matching a distinctive word rather than a full sentence tends to work best.

Does this work on Firefox?

Yes — Firefox support is available. Grab it from the link on the homepage.

Is my search history saved anywhere?

Recent searches are stored locally in your browser only, so they carry over between sessions on the same device. Nothing is sent to a server. See the privacy policy for details.

I found a bug

Please open an issue on GitHub with the video URL and what you searched — that's usually enough to reproduce it.
