Timestampfinder is a browser extension that lets you search a YouTube video's transcript by keyword and jump to the matching moment. This page explains what data the extension and this website collect, and how it's used.
The short version
- Transcript search happens entirely in your browser. Your search terms and the video transcript are never sent to our servers.
- Your preferences are stored locally on your device, not on a server we control.
- We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate usage of the extension and this website — no individual browsing history is sold or shared beyond that.
What the extension accesses
When you open a YouTube video, Timestampfinder reads the transcript data already available on that page to let you search it. This happens locally, inside your browser — the transcript content and whatever you type into the search box are not transmitted to any server we operate.
What we store locally
Timestampfinder uses your browser's built-in local storage (chrome.storage) to remember things like your preferences and recent searches, so they persist between sessions. This data stays on your device. We don't have access to it, and it isn't synced to any server we control.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how people use the extension and this website — for example, which features are used most, and general usage volume over time. This data is aggregated and doesn't include the content of your transcript searches.
Google Analytics may use cookies or similar identifiers and is subject to Google's own privacy policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all sites using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or block cookies in your browser's privacy settings.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data to third parties.
- We don't read or transmit your YouTube watch history, account information, or personal files.
- We don't run any server-side logging of your transcript searches.
Permissions
The extension requests only the browser permissions needed to read the transcript of the YouTube video you're currently viewing and to store your preferences locally. It does not request access to other tabs, your browsing history, or unrelated sites.
Children's privacy
Timestampfinder is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be noted in the extension's changelog.
